TechWeb News reported on June 29,that Facebook will be setting up a new office in Hyderabad, India. Facebook also plans to hire 500 new staff.
Facebook will invest 150 million dollars into the project which includes a 50,000 sq ft office space amongst other things. Of the 500 million current Facebook users, 8 million currently live in India. The Indian office staff will participate in online sales and operations services work in support of Facebook and all of its divisions. The Facebook social network has come under fire for a series of recent changes to its policies that have limited what users can keep private, as well as embarrassing technical glitches that expose personal data. The privacy problems are piling up as the company, which has now hit 500 million users, grapples with how to build new services off all the data provided by users without offending users.
