Hackers have managed to steal "confidential" global warming data after hacking in to the server of a British climate-research center. The hackers posted the documents online proving scientists conspired to overstate the idea that man has caused climate change. 1,079 emails and over 3,800 documents were hacked and posted on an anonymous FTP server in Russia.
The hacker posted a link to the file of data on a blog named Air vent along with the following message. "We feel that climate science is, in the current situation, too important to be kept under wraps. We hereby release a random selection of correspondence, code, and documents." The electronic break in itself has been verified by the director of the research unit, Professor Phil Jones. The archive presents over 120Mb of emails, documents, computer code and models from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. The CRU has told the BBC the files were obtained by a computer hacker. This archive includes unreleased global temperature analysis computer source code that has been the subject of Freedom of Information Act requests.
