"Captain America: The First Avenger" smashes at the box office, debuting with a $65.8 million weekend gross in U.S. and Canada taking over the top spot from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2".
The final installment of hugely successful "Harry Potter" series slipped to second-place with $48.1 million on its second weekend in domestic (U.S. and Canadian) theaters.
Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis' romantic comedy "Friends with Benefits" took the No. 3 spot with $18.5 million earnings domestically. According to Sony Pictures, the movie has a total production budget of about $34 million.
"Captain America: The First Avenger" was released by Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc.
Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc, distributed "Deathly Hallows - Part 2".
"Friends with Benefits" is from Screen Gems, a unit of Sony Corp.
