New cap put on leaking oil well in Gulf (Video and Pictures)

BP oil well cap
Recent underwater video footage shows a new cap being placed on BP's leaking oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, but will it contain the gusher as everyone hopes? Yet for some odd reason, BP officials have yet to comment on the video and images released on-line. They are currently running tests to combat the much less minor leaks which the new BP cap failed to catch.  The BP cap is being used as a quick temporary fix to many peoples dismay. In all actuality, BP plans on permanently plugging the well by drilling two relief wells and injecting heavy drilling mud/concrete. The use of concrete in such a devastating disaster has never been tested. This leads some to believe the problem could get much worse. The government estimates 1.4 to 2.6 million of gallons of oil a day are flooding into the gulf. With the new cap and containment vessel, the system should be capable of capturing 2.4 to 3.2 million gallons of oil a day. Yet the question remains, will this solve the problem? Will we wake up tomorrow only to hear the BP cap has broken and oil is leaking back into the golf uninhibited.

Below are new photos and video of the well being capped:
In these images taken from video provided by BP PLC at 18:17 CDT, a new containment cap, left, is lowered over the broken wellhead at the site of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Monday, July 12, 2010.
