On Saturday, a peaceful protest turned violent as police used tear gas and fired rubber bullets at demonstrators in Geneva Switzerland. The Group was protesting an upcoming World Trade Organization meeting. The "Anti-WTO " said it "regretted being unable to finish the demonstration and deliver the planned speeches.
" Thirty-three arrests were made and one minor injury was reported. Over 3,000 demonstrators led the protest which ended up in what some would call a kind of formed chaos. The group reportedly attacked banks, cars, stores and other institutions with in the town center of Geneva. The WTO meeting included top world trade officials and discussions on the Multilateral Trading System and Current Global Economic Environment. The WTO has hoped to avoid the acrimony and violent protests that have plagued it's previous ministerial conferences, but it seems that may not happen any time soon. Geneva police have taken a number of steps to ensure the security of the meeting place. I see this demonstration as a victory, it shows people are waking up and realizing they need to be heard. Information is power, and the control of information is manipulation. Stand up for yourself, your family, your neighbor and your country. Pay attention to what is going on, get involved in local government and elections, express your views. This has been a message brought to you by The Real News.
